Combine Two Tricks And Get Your Dog To Grab You A Beer From The Fridge

Of all the tricks out there, this is probably going to be one of the most advanced that you encounter. For the most part, that’s because it isn’t just one trick, but rather consists of two tricks that are sandwiched together to form one really, really cool trick.

Basically, what you want your dog to do is open the fridge and fetch a beer. Thus the two tricks at work here would be fetching beer, as well as actually opening the fridge. Some purists insist that getting the dog to go to the fridge is yet another ‘trick’ too, but this is really just part and parcel of the same trick that opens the door.

Training a dog for this trick must therefore be done in two parts as well. First, a thick cloth or rope needs to be attached to the fridge door so that the dog can open it. Then, the dog needs to be trained to do so by pulling on the rope. Place the rope in your dog’s mouth and try to convince it to tug the door, if not, help it to do so and then reward it with a treat regardless. In time, your dog will start to pull the rope by its own volition and gradually will do so on command.

Similarly, to fetch beer you’ll have to try to cajole your dog to pick up a beer can on command. At first, you may need to help place the can in the dog’s mouth. Use rewards when the dog performs well.

Finally, once both of these tricks are mastered, you’ll need to teach your dog to combine them both. This too can take time, but by this point most of the hard work would already have been done and all you have to do is show the dog what you want it to do. Before you know it, you’ll be able to sit back on the sofa, while your dog runs to the fridge, grabs a beer, and brings it to you!
