Have Your Dog Fetch Beer

Ever wish that you could get your dog to fetch you a beer when you’re too lazy to stretch out and reach to get one? Well, truth is: You can!

Honestly speaking, ‘fetching’ tricks are something that dogs really are good at, and fetching beer is really no different from fetching sticks, frisbees, or any other miscellaneous items. So it should come as no surprise that training for it involves the same sort of mechanism really.

To start training what you’ll need are some treats and a can of beer. Maybe two cans, that is, if you intend to drink one of them yourself while you’re training your dog.

Anyway, start off by placing the beer a few feet away from your dog, pointing at it, and saying ‘Get beer!’. Don’t be annoyed if your dog doesn’t get it the first time round, few dogs do. Instead, if your dog doesn’t go and grab the can of beer, try some encouragement to start out with. If even that doesn’t work then say ‘Get beer!’ and take the can and place it in your dog’s mouth. Reward your dog for this with a treat.

After a few times of that, try to once again get your dog to take the beer voluntarily. Eventually, it should work, so just try again and again until you get better at it.

Keep running through this exercise over and over until your dog can fetch you beer on command. It may take time, and a lot of practice and training, but when you show this particular trick off it’s going to make it all worthwhile. Imagine the looks of surprise that would flicker across their faces when your dog trots over holding a beer in its mouth.

Who knows, maybe you could even take things a step further and get your dog to open the fridge and fetch beer… right?
